MBBS

English is widely used in medical and other higher education. The climate is tropical with a mild winter from October to March, and a summer from March to June. Bangladesh is the Next Eleven Emerging Economy. It has achieved significant strides in human and social development. The country is a founding member of SAARC, the Developing 8 Countries, and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). It contributes to one of the largest peacekeeping to the United Nations.

MBBS, also known as "Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery", is a course that is pursued to be a doctor. Candidates who have an interest in curing patients and thus serving mankind often take up the course of MBBS. The course is about four-and-a-half years followed by internship of one year, which becomes five-and-a-half years. After earning the MBBS degree, one moves on to become a physician and can practice as a doctor anywhere in the country. The career is emotionally and intellectually rewarding one.

Individuals can also specialize in any medical field and pursue higher education as well. Many students are interested in studying abroad and also pursuing their career as a doctor out of Nepal.

Nepal has mainly two Universities Tribhuvan University (T.U) and Kathmandu University (K.U) and three autonomous institutions BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) and Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS).

Patan Academy: 4 years and 8 months plus 1 year of rotating internship.

Eligibility

a. Passed 10+2 Science or equivalent (with Physics, Chemistry and Biology) with 50% aggregate in total marks or GPA 2.4

OR

Secured the Percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (A-Level) with different grading system

OR

b. Applicants who have passed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, DentalScience, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy)  containing Physics,Chemistry and Biology with Certificate of Equivalence to Grade 12 Science program from National Examination Board

AND

c. Secured at least50% aggregate in total marks both in Diploma and the Examinationforequivalence

AND

d. Registered in Nepal Health Professional council or Nepal Pharmacy Council orNepal Ayurveda Council as per related educational program.

Selection Procedure

For both Scholarship and Paying seats, Candidates selection is done by Medical Education Commission (MEC) according to the Merit list of Common Entrance Exam (CEE) conducted by MEC. Selection is done through online matching process.

Tribhuvan University (TU), established in 1959, is the first University to conduct medical courses in Nepal. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University with the mandate and the responsibility of training all the categories of health manpower needed in the country. TU started its MBBS program in 2078.

As a precursor to the establishment of a University, a team of dedicated people first established Kathmandu Valley Campus in 1985 to provide education in Intermediate of Science (I.Sc). The same team proposed the establishment of Kathmandu University. After thorough discussion on the proposal in the Parliament, Kathmandu University was granted by an Act of Parliament on December 11, 1991.

Kathmandu University School of medical Sciences (KUSMS) is an institution established in collaboration between Kathmandu University and Dhulikhel Hospital. KUSMS launched its own constituent MBBS program in August 2001.
